Yesterday morning we gave the dogs each their presents before we started getting ready for the first of our family gatherings. Morgan was happy with her honky pig, Küster had his snowman and Flattery had her toys. Bunny liked her presents, but in true Greyhound fashion, as soon as she could get back into the bedroom, she was back to her long winter’s nap. I have to admit, I was a little jealous of her when I saw her all tucked in under her quilt looking so content. After all the hustle and bustle to get ready, I am ready for some time to breathe.
As I thought about it, I realize that one of the best parts about the holidays for me is when they’re over. I don’t mean that in a derogatory or sarcastic way. I simply mean that there’s a quieter glow in the days after the holidays that I find peaceful and relaxing. I love the family time, too, but sleeping in the day after Christmas and enjoying the morning with the dogs is something that I look forward to.
I’m not sure what we’ll do today. Maybe we’ll stay home where it’s warm all day, or maybe we’ll go out for a little Starbucks puppucino run. Whatever we do, it will just be nice to be on our own time and enjoying life together. I love that I have the dogs to remind me to slow down and enjoy life on days like this. I hope that whatever you are doing today is relaxing, fun and good for your soul.
