A few months ago we introduced the fine readers of this blog to our latest K-9 Candidate, Newton. Well, after many tries the decision was made to scratch Newton. The search goes on.
His handler has plans to continue with Newton at home teaching him tricks and a few other things. Newton just might be doing agility at a local dog club. But as for search and rescue Newton was more interested in other things and not searching for missing people.
The fact that Newton doesn’t have what it takes is a little disappointing. We all have watched him grow and have played with him for Some time. Newton is a great dog. But that being said we knew that the meeting with his hopeful handler and his K-9 candidate was going to happen. We had that meeting. One outcome of having this type of meeting with a future K-9 handler helps us see one thing. It typically tells us if the person is going to be a good team member. People attached to their dogs and hearing that their four legged friend is not working out can take it wrong, believe me. In our case, Newton’s handler already understood this and took it well.
We started discussing other options that Newton might like to do and also feelings about starting the search for a new K-9 partner. The search had already started.
We hope Newton enjoys hanging out with his family and being a pet.
