This week we’ve been sharing the dogs’ letters to Santa, since Bunny is kind enough to take dictation from the other dogs for them and send them off to Santa. They often amuse me, so I share them here with our readers. As we finish off the week, we end with Flattery’s letter.
I hope you’re doing well, but I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t be. I mean, you are Santa, after all. I bet you have a blast up there at the North Pole, doing what you want all the time and not having to worry about people judging you as “naughty” or “nice.” You’re living my dream.
I suppose I should try to explain some of my exploits this year, but the truth is, I’m not apologizing. I had fun and that’s what matters. I think humans forget the joy of living in the moment, but not me. Sometimes you need a little mischief just to feel alive. I have a feeling you know what I’m talking about here.
That’s not to say that I don’t want to please my humans. I work hard to make them smile or laugh every day. It’s important to me to make them happy. Sometimes, though, things just don’t go the way I plan.
The thing is, Santa, I already have everything that I want and need. Back when I was so sick as a young pup and almost died, I learned about what’s really important. Having a family that loves you and that you love in return is the greatest gift anyone can ask for. They let me be me and I am thankful for that more than anything. It’s not that I don’t like presents, but there are others out there who need them more than I do. There are hounds needing homes who have nothing. I’d rather let them have my share of the presents and go on living in the present, enjoying every gift life tosses my way.
My Christmas wish is for more hounds to find homes this year, for humans to be kinder to themselves and each other and for a day when everyone smiles and feels happy. I realize it’s a big request and you might not be able to fill it completely, but anything you can do to get it closer to happening is good enough for me. Doing your best is all anyone can ask for!
P.S. Let’s keep this conversation just between you and me. I have a reputation as a mischief maker to uphold, you know!
