Finding Your Unicorn

by Houndstooth on

If you live in the United States, and probably a lot of other places, you are most likely aware that Starbucks came out with a limited edition drink yesterday called the unicorn frappucino.  There has been a lot of buzz about it, and it has even been reported on the news.  Everywhere I turned this week, even before they were selling the drink, people were talking about it.  Since I’m enjoying my last few days of break, I thought it would be fun to go over and get one, so that’s what I did.

The Elusive Unicorn Frappucino

Part of the buzz about this drink is because of the flavor.  It’s mango mixed with blue raspberry and when you mix it together, it changed from purple and blue streaks to pink.  I honestly was afraid that I really wouldn’t like it, but to my surprise, it was really rather tasty.  One of the things that surprised me about the whole phenomenon was all the different reactions people on social media had to it.  Everybody had an opinion on it, it seems, even people who haven’t tried it yet.

You might be wondering what this has to do with a dog blog, and I’ll tell you.  A lot of people are in search of their unicorn canine.  They have an idea about what that dog will be before they ever see it in person.  When they actually meet, sometimes it’s love at first sight, other times, it takes a little time for humans and dogs to decide they like each other.  Almost all of the time, there are surprises.

Getting to know a new dog is a roller coaster of emotions.  You start to fall in love as you get to know more and more of his or her personality. There may be frustrations as you try to teach him new things or understand what he wants.  You might even feel some pangs of nostalgia or sadness as you’re reminded of a dog you had before.  After a while, it all gets mixed together into something new and unique that you share with only that dog.  No matter what dogs you’ll have in the future, it will never be the same experience that you have with that dog.

So, as I sipped on my sweet and sour drink and mixed it together, that’s what I was pondering.  It’s the sweet and the sour that mix together to give us those memories that we cherish for a lifetime.  No dog is perfect when you first meet it, but after awhile, you learn that that dog is perfect for you.  Enjoy the journey, wherever it takes you!

Great post. I don’t do Starbucks, so haven’t tried the Unicorn. I do think it is interesting that people have opinions about it who haven’t tried it. And, it’s a drink. Do they not have anything better to talk about. Anywho, I definitely got more than I was looking for in Tippy, but wouldn’t have it any other way.
