Bring On Autumn

by Houndstooth on

This past weekend was supposed to be the beginning of Autumn.  Instead, we saw a return to Summer temperatures that made it feel like we were in a broiler.  It was my first weekend off of work, and it took me most of Saturday to realize that my break is really here.  Unfortunately, the girls and I couldn’t go out to celebrate because Summer just wouldn’t give up.  I went out to an art fair for a short time and by the time I’d gotten back to the car, sweat was running in rivers down my back, something that I rarely experience.  Normally, I like to hold on to the warm weather with all my might, but this year, I’m ready to bring on Autumn.

I know the dogs won’t mind.  Bunny has staged a small protest about the heat with some tummy troubles that mostly result in noxious gas.  Of course, if the weather were nicer, we could open the windows and air out the house, but no such luck.  Flattery is the only one I think was at all excited about the warm weather, but when I told her it was too hot for her to go out and about with me, I think she changed her mind.

For the first time, I’m finding myself really looking forward to Autumn with cooler temperatures and a return to some of our favorite activities.  I am hoping that by the first week of October, we’re seeing weather that we can get out and enjoy National Dog Walking Week in some scenic places.  I’m dreaming of apple cider, favorite quilts, walks through the leaves, fall colors and pumpkin spice.  Most of all, I’m looking forward to having my trusty canine sidekicks with me wherever I go.  That’s really the best part of Fall Break for me.

I guess the heat of the next couple of days will give me a little more time to plan where we’ll take our week of walks and think of a few other things to do.  We certainly can’t let all our time off go to waste.  We’ll just have to pack more fun into a few less days.  What are some of the things you’re looking forward to as the seasons change, whether it’s to Autumn or Spring?

The temps here aren’t too bad, although actually higher than the norm for this time of year. We have wet weather though. There’s only been the odd few days where we haven’t had rain.

Hope you enjoy your week off and get out and about with the dogs. Sue, Polly & Honey

We’re with you! Lying under the ceiling fans until things cool off!
