Beating Jack Frost

by Houndstooth on

Bunny here at the keyboard to share my creative way of staying in the 30/30 Challenge this week.  I’m also telling  you about something that made me happy this week for Miss Jey’s How To Be Happy Hop.

How To Be HappyMonday was a no school day for Mom and a no work day for Dad.  Normally, that would mean an extra hiking adventure of some kind for us.  However, Jack Frost was working hard against us.  It was downright frigid all day, and even though the thermometer got all the way up to twelve degrees in the afternoon, the wind chill didn’t make it feel like it was even close to that.  It was looking like we were going to be stuck inside.

Oh Bell BoyStill, I’m a hound who doesn’t like to quit, and neither do my humans.  I reminded Mom that she still had a gift card for Bass Pro, and she got the hint.  So, we bundled up and Dad warmed up the van, then we headed off to Bass Pro.

I knew I was going to like it when I saw the frozen waterfalls in the ponds outside the store.  It seemed like a sign that Mother Nature hadn’t completely forsaken us.  Anyway, we didn’t dilly dally outside for more than a moment.  We headed right inside.

Baby, It's Cold!We came to the store so that we could walk around and get some exercise, but obviously, we couldn’t just power walk around the store, so we did some shopping and found a few things that we wanted to buy.  Of course, it was hard to keep walking because so many people kept stopping us to talk about me and pet me.  It’s not easy getting exercise when you’re a canine celebrity.  Still, I enjoyed meeting the public and I love shopping.   I even found a pair of pants for Mom that I approved of, since it looks like the Shepherd hair won’t stick to them too terribly.

I think it just goes to show that sometimes you have to be creative to meet challenges in life, and you have to be willing to pause and let people compliment you.  I am so happy that Bass Pro lets us canines in to shop and that they were there on such a cold day.  We didn’t get as much walking in as we’d have liked, but we did have a good time and our toes didn’t freeze off.  I love meeting a good challenge!

Jeans don’t usually show hair, but my pile jacket is looking more like mohair every day!

  2. Cindy says:

We did an indoor walk today too. It has been way too cold to walk outside for more than a couple of minutes. Last time I took Millie out it was zero degrees!

  3. Sue says:

Bunny, Glad you got out despote the conditions and you were able to meet your public:)

  4. Bunny, besides having fun, you were “planting seeds” as I like to say. All the people that saw you are now thinking how nice greyhounds are and you planted seeds in their heads about maybe adopting a greyhound of their own one day.

OH, it has been a challenge getting exercise this week. Minus 1 degree here this morning! Ridiculous.

No doubt that Bunny warmed many hearts on a frigid day.

  6. I keep begging Momma to take me to Bass Pro Shop. There’s one not TOO far from us, but Momma still says it’s too much of a drive.

  7. Rosemary says:

Shopping! That’s a great way to be happy!!!

  8. Sam says:

You can bring the pups to your Bass Pro? They told us here in AZ absolutely NOT. LOL – each store is so different.

  9. Kristine says:

That darn windchill is ruining our fun as well! January cannot be over fast enough. Bring on spring!

Good on you for getting out as much as you can anyway. You look quite cozy in that jacket.

  10. Goose says:

Sill cold here. And it is snowing again. I gotta find one of these bass pro shops. MOM loves loves to fish so it would be a win win for both of us.

Sometimes a gal just needs to go shopping. This freezing weather is perfect for it.

  12. that was a great idea and a great way to deal with the frigid cold we are all having!

  13. Pup Fan says:

Sounds like a great solution to the cold weather! 🙂

  14. Well, you sure figured out a great way to get in some exercise despite mother nature’s uncooperativeness. Bravo!

  15. Oh, that’s great! And you look wonderful, as usual, Bunny Dahling!!

We do that sometimes. We’ll go to a garden centre where they allow dogs and take the boys for a stroll around under cover if the weather is really, truly awful. They really love it, because they get extra pets from all the other customers – and the staff, too!

What a great idea! I love dog friendly stores….wish we had a Bass Pro Shops here in our area!
Bunny, you are so stylish….it is no wonder you draw attention wherever you go. 🙂

  17. Jessica says:

Wow, I didn’t realize Bass Pro Shops allowed dogs! Good for them. A lot of the big chain outdoors stores have stopped over the years, like REI did. I suspect it would be really overwhelming for Silas, though, since I almost had a panic attack myself the last time I was in one.

  18. Two French Bulldogs says:

Now that is a good idea! Hope you bought some goodies

  19. Too cool that you got to go to Bass Pro! We have one about 2 miles from our house, yet Riley has never been. I want to take her but never think about it. You’ve just put the idea in my head!

  20. KB says:

Way to go Bunny! I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a celebrity like you. But you persevered and met the challenge!

  21. wyatt says:

That’s our kind of store, dog friendly and sells “mom pants” that don’t show dog hair!!

  22. Nothing like a bit of retail therapy to get the spirits up. We’re escaping into the shops too. To get away from the heat 😉 I’ve seen the blizzard and icy pictures on telly. Don’t catch a cold, Bunny. MWAH! X

  23. Loy Cerf says:

Hey Bunny, I didn’t know that Bass Pro let pups in! Thanks for the info!

  24. This is a very happy thing! Bunny…you look great. Good luck to your mom’s fantasy about almost-hairless pants.
