Are You Ready For The Bowl

by Houndstooth on

If you live in the United States, you probably know that a big event is going to happen this Sunday.  There’s a big Bowl game coming.  I’m talking, of course, about the Puppy Bowl.

I know, there are a lot of people who get together and have Super Bowl parties, but for dog lovers who don’t enjoy football, the Puppy Bowl is where it’s at.   I’m afraid my husband and I are alone among our family and friends when it comes to preferring to watch something with dogs in it over watching a bunch of guys run around and pound each other, though.  I have found myself thinking how cool it would be if someone we knew had a Puppy Bowl party instead.

Thanks to the folks at Subaru, who have that fantastic Dog Tested.  Dog Approved. ™ ad campaign, you can now join a virtual Puppy Bowl party with a bunch of other like minded people and their pups.  If you have an iPad or iPhone, you simply download the app from the iTunes store.  When the Puppy Bowl airs, you’ll be able to interact with other people who are watching it when it airs at 3:00 EST.  It will also work when the Puppy Bowl is re-aired, which you’ll have to check your local listings for.

SubaruDogTested_KeysOf course, when you’re watching the Puppy Bowl, you’ll also get to watch some of Subaru’s fantastic ads.  This year, they will be introducing Grant Weber, Subaru Canine Sales Associate.  I find myself in envy of his job.  Imagine helping dogs find the perfect Subaru for their needs and getting paid for it!  The teasers I’ve seen for the commercials had me laughing, and I wanted to share one of them here with you.

My husband and I had to watch that one several times.  There are also three others that are great, The Tailgate, Let’s Talk Financing, and Lint Roller.  I don’t know about you, but if these are the teasers, I definitely want to see the entire commercials.  Subaru has had some great commercials that we’ve loved over the years featuring dogs, because they realize that many people consider their dogs important members of the family.  Their ads celebrate the love that people have for their dogs in fun and endearing ways.  I know a lot of people still talk about the ad that starts with the Lab puppy and follows his progress to adulthood in the back seat of the family Subaru as the family grows and changes.

SubaruDogTested_TobyWe don’t own a Subaru, but my husband keeps talking about it.  It’s definitely our dream car, and one of the reasons is because they’re so pet-oriented.  Not only do they have cars with pet amenities, but many of the dealerships work with local animal agencies to hold adoption events.  On top of that, they also sponsor the Map My Dog Walk app that we rely on to help keep track of our progress of getting in shape.

I hope that a lot of you are planning to join in the fun during the Puppy Bowl.  I think it will be a really fun, interactive experience.  The best part is that you can enjoy it with your own dog and interact with people who feel a lot like you do.

SubaruDogTested_SitThis post is sponsored by Subaru. I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the Dog Tested. Dog Approved.™ campaign, but Tales and Tails only shares news for things we support.

  1. I never knew that Subaru was so dedicated to pets until this campaign. I do LOVE the “Best Friends” commercial with the Lab.

  2. jet says:

I think it’s sad the lab gets relegated to the boot when there’s only one kid in the child seat in the back, def room for the old lab to still ride on the nice soft seat 😉

  3. Sue says:

You’ve done it now. I have been watching all the Subaru dog ads on YouTube:) There’s a great parking one and a pet store one:)

  4. sara, oreo and chewy says:

YOu have funny timing….I’ve been thinking about buying a subaru! Seem like really good “dog” mobiles (plus they’re tanks in the snow).

Tis the season for clever commercials.

  5. They tried to do a Puppy Bowl on Good Morning America this week. It didn’t go so well. LOL I haven’t seen the dog commercials. I will have to check out You Tube.

  6. genjiscorner says:

We are a two Subaru family, and the kids love it.

  7. We don’t have a Subaru but heard an interesting story on NPR the other day about the company. Seems they’re developing an industry niche. I love that lab commercial.

Now that the Honda Element isn’t being made anymore, I think a Subaru is the perfect doggie vehicle. (But you gotta love the old Element, with the hose-out floor and removable seats, so you can make a “doggie den” in the back). LOL! (A couple of years ago I photographed “backstage” at the Puppy Bowl — they tape it several months in advance, and by the time you see it, those puppies will (fortunately!) be in good homes and halfway to grown up. The year I did it, it was the first time (I think) they were including little pit bulls in record numbers. And why shouldn’t they? That’s more of a snapshot of America’s homeless pet shelters.) Thanks for this post — looking out for the Subaru ads! :0)

  9. I freakin’ LOVE their commercials and da fact they is really geared to animal peoples. It’s bout time big companies takes dat into consideraton.

    Ummm…but da kitteh….

  10. Kristine says:

Yay for the Puppy Bowl! I haven’t seen most of the ads you mentioned so I assume they haven’t been shown in Canada. Booo. I have seen the lab puppy ad, though, and loved it. I also love that some of the ads show mixed breed dogs and appreciate they realize mutts are just as awesome as purebreds.

I am definitely looking forward to Sunday!

  11. We have a Subaru Forester. Maggie loves her Subbie car. Best car ever!!! Yes, subarus company all about LOVE & DOGS. Especially great cars to drive in bad weather. Stops on a dime in flooding rain. We’ll be watching the Super Bowl (we love football-GO Sf 49ers) and the Puppy Bowl! Too cute to pass up little pups! 🙂 🙂

  12. Jen says:

I just love Subaru’s new campaign! We’re headed out to our local dealership in a bit to see if we can meet this Grant Weber guy:))

  13. We watch the regular Super Bowl because of the commercials, but we loves the Puppy Bowl too!

  16. Rosemary says:

*Shakes fist* Damn you!!! That commercial with the lab puppy always makes me tear up!

I love watching the puppy bowl, I think I will download that app!

  17. KB says:

I’m not sure if we get the Puppy Bowl channel. I’ll have to check. We are not fans of the Super Bowl, I have to admit…

  18. wyatt says:

We will be watching the Puppybowl and wearing our Subaru scarves that we got a couple of years back, on the “Walk your Dog on Super Bowl Sunday” event.
( A cat in Subaru is just wrong!)
AND we will be walking in the morning, to log some minutes for Iditawalk !
See you on the trail 😀

  19. Pamela says:

I wish I could find a local bar that hosted a Puppy Bowl party. One that was dog friendly would be even better.

Loved our Subaru. It was definitely dog friendly. If I were ever to buy a car again, it would probably be a Subaru.

  20. Sage says:

I think that app (IntoNow) is also available on Android phones. I think we’re going to watch it on the ‘big screen’ though.

  21. I’m so ON it! It’s going to be a SuBarOoOo-tiful thing!

  22. Hi Y’all!

I always enjoy visiting, but today I thought my BOL was turning into ROFL…then I realized it was my Human laughing!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  23. I’d much rather watch the Puppy Bowl than watch a bunch of big guys trying to concuss each other. Subaru has been very active in supporting rescue organizations and fund raisers. If I needed a car, I’d definitely look at the Subaru to give back some of the love.
